"White Cube/Black Box" Exhibit at UMMA
Thursday, October 21, On view now through the end of 2022
Artists and researchers have been working together as part of the "Fair Representation in Arts and Data" project and their early research findings are now on display inside of the "YOU ARE HERE" exhibit inside of the Apse at UMMA. The title refers to the "white cube" of most traditional museum spaces - white walls without context that can often be exclusionary, as well as to the "black box" of data algorithms, which can be very diffucult to understand. This smaller display will be on view with "YOU ARE HERE" through next year and a larger exhibit of work from "Fair Representation in Arts and Data" is forthcoming in the Winter of 2022.
